Description
Open Pollination (O.P.) seeds from Jewel of the Nile. There are two plants running around in the hosta hobby under this name, but the one I consider “authentic” is the one that is highly unstable, green + gold, and has beautiful leaves that come to a point! This is a large hosta, and depending on what growths the pods were on, they could effectively have “gold” or” green” maternal genetics. It requires constant maintenance, as it likes to “revert” back to the solid gold form, which was originally named Dee’s Golden Jewel. I now have two massive clumps of Dee’s Golden Jewel planted here, and they are far larger than their “Jewel of the Nile” progenitor, but they are also spectacular in their own right (check out the glow that the gold leaves have in the photos here).
My past sowings of “JOTN” gave me a fair amount of gold, in my opinion. Limited seeds in 2020, and again in 2021, but we made them 50-packs this year. No holdback inventory here, this is it for 50 packs. See more at Hosta Helper and the Hosta Library.
