Description
Open Pollination (O.P.) seeds from Lakeside Black Mama. This hosta has deep green leaves, produces huge seed pods, but the rumors are true; occasionally a streaked seedling will show up in the mix (maybe 1 out of every 50-100 seedlings). This has been the most reliable germinator I’ve ever tried, which means that if you’re new to hosta seeds, this is a great one to instill some confidence. The streaks haven’t lasted, and you’ll get lots of dark green, vigorous seedlings, so be prepared to cull heavily. I’m still growing a couple from past years to see how they ultimately turn out.
I should also mention that the deep purple flowers really put on a show in the garden…check out the photo of the plant in bloom to see what I mean!

I had 50 seeds and all 50 germinated, very easy to grow. These seeds and plants grew fast, healthy and beautiful. Most seedlings looked just like the mother plant, but I did get several that had red petioles and a couple that were very dark green. Excited to see what the hostas do this spring in their 2 year.
