Description
Open Pollination (O.P.) seeds from Hosta Cynthia O.S. New for 2021’s harvest. Cynthia is one of the parents of Hosta Alliteration and is widely known for the crazy blotching and mottling displayed on the leaves in the earlier portions of the season. Frankly, it’s one of those hostas that looks like it has a virus but doesn’t; check out the photo of it unfurling spring ’21, I had a heart attack until I remembered what it was! absolutely unique genetics, and while I’m just guessing, based on how Alliteration came about, it might be some sort of recessive trait, which would mean either breeding back to Cynthia or Alliteration or siblings from the seeds, to find more mottled plants. Totally just a guess at this point. Even when the mottling is gone, Cynthia has really nice wavy, pointed leaves. A neat plant to work with! See more at the Hosta Helper and the Hosta Library.
